The tent that stays on the car all year is the tent you stop thinking of as optional. It costs you fuel on the commute and clearance in the car park, and it is up there because taking it down is more trouble than leaving it.

The Soft Shell uses the same Rhino-Rack mounting system as the rest of the range. Once it is set up the first time, it goes on or comes off in about five minutes — and at 43.5kg it is the easiest tent we make to lift.

It arrives complete with the tent, ladder, mounting system, hardware and tools. Everything needed for the first fit is in the box.

All-weather

Sleep through it.

Close a tent up against the rain and you wake up in your own condensation. Leave it open and you wake up in the weather. It is the oldest compromise in camping and it costs you a night's sleep either way.

The Soft Shell carries an awning over the front door and the rear window, so both can stay open and moving air through the tent while it rains. Ventilation in conditions that would otherwise mean sealing yourself in.

The hardware holding it together is corrosion-tested stainless steel, because the tent lives outside on a roof whether you are using it or not.

The Soft Shell sleeps two on a 40mm foam mattress, with an LED strip light inside and storage pockets for the things that otherwise get lost in the dark. Functionality and simplicity are the core of the design.

Roof top tents are often ruled out on one number: weight. Not the tent's — the roof's. Plenty of cars simply cannot take a heavy hard shell once the rack is on it.

At 43.5kg the Soft Shell is the lightest tent we make, which puts it within reach of more vehicles and more roof ratings. It also means less mass on the roof, less effect on how the car handles, and a tent two people can lift without a plan.

Zwifloc Channels Nuts

The patented Zwifloc™ fastening system lets you mount, move and swap accessories anywhere along your bars, platform or deck, without disturbing anything else already up there. One clever channel nut, endless setups.

Drop in, not thread in

Traditional channel nuts have to be fed in from the end of the bar and slid into place. The patented Zwifloc™ nut drops straight into the channel wherever you need it and sits flush under the lip, no end-loading, no aperture to line up.

Place it anywhere

Add a bike carrier between two roof boxes, or slot a light bracket into the last free gap, without loosening and shuffling everything else along. Every accessory goes exactly where you want it, and the rest of your setup stays put.

Twist in, twist out

A turn of the bolt rotates a high-tensile nut to lock beneath the channel edge; back it off and it lifts straight out. Add, remove or reposition your gear in seconds, and change your layout as the trip demands.
