Mounting

On in five minutes.

A roof top tent you cannot get off the car is a roof top tent you carry all year — through the commute, the car park, the fuel bill. Most people leave them up because taking them down is a two-hour job with two people and a lot of swearing.

The Hard Shell uses a mounting system we designed ourselves. After the initial setup, it goes on or comes off in about five minutes — no re-measuring, no re-shimming, no starting from scratch each season.

So the tent is on the car when you are going away and off it when you are not. It arrives complete with the tent, ladder, mounting system, hardware and tools, so the first fit is done with what is in the box.

Five-minute swap

On or off in about five minutes after the first setup.

Designed in-house

Our own mounting system, built for repeat fitting.

Complete in the box

Tent, ladder, mounting system, hardware and tools included.

All-weather

Sleep through it.

Two things ruin a night in a roof top tent: condensation when it is closed up, and rain coming in when it is open. They pull in opposite directions, which is why most tents force you to pick one.

The Hard Shell carries awnings over its openings, so windows and doors stay open and moving air through the tent even while it is raining. You get ventilation in weather that would normally mean zipping everything shut and waking up damp.

Underneath, the hardware is corrosion-tested stainless steel — because a tent that lives on a roof spends its life in salt air, dust and rain whether you are in it or not.

Awnings over openings

Ventilate in all conditions without letting rain in.

Corrosion tested

Stainless steel hardware built for salt, dust and rain.

Gas strut assisted

Leave it made up through transit and storage.

Comfort

A proper bed.

The point of sleeping on the roof is not novelty. It is a flat, dry bed above the mud and the rocks, ready the moment you stop — instead of a ground tent pitched on whatever surface the site gives you.

The Hard Shell sleeps two on a 70mm high-density mattress: thick enough that you are not feeling the base through it on night three. An LED strip light runs inside, and there is storage throughout the tent for the small things that otherwise end up on the floor.

Bedding stays in the tent during transit and storage, so setting up means opening it — not making the bed from scratch every night you arrive somewhere new.

Carry more

The lid works too.

A roof top tent usually costs you your roof. It takes the space, takes the rating, and the gear that used to travel up top has to come inside with you.

The Hard Shell gives some of it back. Tracks are built into the lid, rated to carry up to 20kg on top of the closed tent — so the boards, the awning or the gear that would not fit anywhere else still has a home.

Compatible accessories mount straight to those tracks, which means the tent stops being the end of your build and becomes another part of it.

20kg on the lid

Rated to carry up to 20kg / 44.1lbs on the closed tent.

Built-in tracks

Mounting channels moulded into the hard top.

Direct-mount accessories

Compatible Rhino-Rack gear fixes straight to the tracks.

Build

Hard shell, hard wearing.

A hard shell earns its weight in what it keeps out. Closed on the highway it is taking wind, stones, branches and whatever the weather does while the car is parked for a week at a trailhead.

This one weighs 63kg and is built around that job — a rigid shell that protects the tent and its contents, gas struts that take the effort out of opening and closing, and stainless hardware corrosion-tested for the environments it actually lives in.

Durable protection with practical comfort for two. Nothing on it is there to look good in a photograph.

63kg

Rigid shell construction, rated for real touring.

Protects what is inside

Bedding and gear stay clean and dry between trips.

Tested hardware

Corrosion-tested stainless steel throughout.

Zwifloc Channels Nuts

The patented Zwifloc™ fastening system lets you mount, move and swap accessories anywhere along your bars, platform or deck, without disturbing anything else already up there. One clever channel nut, endless setups.

Drop in, not thread in

Traditional channel nuts have to be fed in from the end of the bar and slid into place. The patented Zwifloc™ nut drops straight into the channel wherever you need it and sits flush under the lip, no end-loading, no aperture to line up.

Place it anywhere

Add a bike carrier between two roof boxes, or slot a light bracket into the last free gap, without loosening and shuffling everything else along. Every accessory goes exactly where you want it, and the rest of your setup stays put.

Twist in, twist out

A turn of the bolt rotates a high-tensile nut to lock beneath the channel edge; back it off and it lifts straight out. Add, remove or reposition your gear in seconds, and change your layout as the trip demands.

One ecosystem

The same Zwifloc™ hardware works across Pioneer platforms, Reconn-Deck bars and crossbars, so your accessories move with you. Many products now ship with Zwifloc built in, and gear you already own can be retrofitted.

shield-check

Every mounting system is tested to hold your load through an emergency stop not just the cruise.
