Fav Product Note

water_page_hero
  • We grew up going camping as a family; my brothers and Dad would set up the campsite. I loved going camping but never had to learn how to do anything myself.
  • Little did I know that even the best surfers have bad surf days when they fall, and they fail. It's all about the learning process. Every time you fall and fail, you are learning something new.
  • I can easily put the surfboards up and any other gear that I need to take down with me, and I'll be on my way.

Coverage

Wrap-around shade.

The Batwing isn't a straight strip of shade — it fans out from the side of your vehicle and curves around the rear, throwing shelter across a wide arc instead of a narrow strip. Pick the spread you need: 180° for a generous side-and-corner cover, or the full 270° that wraps side and rear together.

The 270 extends up to 2m from the vehicle and covers 12.3m² (132 ft²) — enough to shade a family, a camp kitchen and the back door at once. The 180 gives you 8.4m² (90 ft²) for a tighter, faster set-up. Both come in left- or right-hand versions, so the awning opens on the side of your rig you actually use.

More arc means more usable ground — you can walk the full length of the vehicle in the shade instead of ducking in and out of it.

270° or 180°

Choose a full wrap-around or a lighter side-and-rear spread.

Up to 12.3 m²

The 270 shades 132 ft²: room for the whole camp.

Left or right

Opens on the side of the vehicle you set up from.

Setup

Up in minutes. Solo.

Camp should be set before the kettle's on. The Freestanding Batwing is built for one-person operation — unclip, swing it out, drop the enclosed legs, and you're done. No wrestling a second pair of hands, no spider-web of guy ropes across the site.

Because the legs are self-supporting, there's nothing to trip over and no pegs needed just to stand it up (guy ropes are there when you want to batten down). Packing up is the same in reverse — the poles fold into the arms, so nothing goes missing.

Roll out when you arrive, reset when you leave — an awning that respects your time at both ends of the trip.

One-person operation

Swing it out and drop the legs solo.

No trip hazards

Self-supporting legs mean no ropes across camp.

Folds away clean

Rated to keep you dry through genuine rain.

All-weather

Rain or shine.

Shade is only half the job — an awning has to hold up when the weather turns. The Batwing's canopy is premium 280gsm ripstop polycotton: heavy enough to block harsh sun, woven to resist tears, and treated to shrug off the rain.

A 2000mm waterhead rating keeps you dry through real downpours, and UV50+ protection blocks the sun that makes a long afternoon unbearable. When the wind picks up, the enclosed legs and guy-rope points let you anchor down and ride it out.

Stowed, it lives in a weatherproof, tear-resistant woven-polyester bag — protected on the roof between trips, not just when it's open.

UV50+

Build & fit

Fits your whole rig.

The Batwing mounts across the Rhino-Rack ecosystem — Pioneer platforms, Reconn decks and crossbars alike — so it works with the setup you already run, not a separate one you have to buy.

Everything to get it on the vehicle is in the box: mounting brackets, pegs, guy ropes and the poles (which fold neatly into the arms). Tall and short bracket options let you set the mounting height to clear your roofline and reach the ground cleanly.

One considered system — awning, hardware and bag — engineered to fit together and take the knocks of the track.

Universal Rhino-Rack fit

Mounts to platforms, decks and crossbars.

Everything included

Brackets, pegs, ropes and fold-away poles in the box.

Height options

Tall or short brackets to suit your roofline.

Make it a room

Add walls. Add rooms.

Open, the Batwing is shade and shelter. Closed in, it's a room. Side-wall kits attach to the 270 to fully enclose the space — turning your awning into a private, weatherproof spot for sleeping, changing or getting out of the weather.

The range grows with it: awning extensions for extra reach, a mesh floor saver shaped to the awning's footprint, and heavy-duty sand screws for pegs that won't hold in soft ground.

Start with the shade, then build the setup you actually need — one awning that grows with the way you camp.

Full enclosure

Side walls close the 270 into a private room.

Extensions & floors

Add reach and a shaped mesh floor saver.

Anchoring extras

Sand screws hold pegs where soft ground won't.

Zwifloc Channels Nuts

The patented Zwifloc™ fastening system lets you mount, move and swap accessories anywhere along your bars, platform or deck, without disturbing anything else already up there. One clever channel nut, endless setups.

Drop in, not thread in

Traditional channel nuts have to be fed in from the end of the bar and slid into place. The patented Zwifloc™ nut drops straight into the channel wherever you need it and sits flush under the lip, no end-loading, no aperture to line up.

Place it anywhere

Add a bike carrier between two roof boxes, or slot a light bracket into the last free gap, without loosening and shuffling everything else along. Every accessory goes exactly where you want it, and the rest of your setup stays put.

Twist in, twist out

A turn of the bolt rotates a high-tensile nut to lock beneath the channel edge; back it off and it lifts straight out. Add, remove or reposition your gear in seconds, and change your layout as the trip demands.

One ecosystem

The same Zwifloc™ hardware works across Pioneer platforms, Reconn-Deck bars and crossbars, so your accessories move with you. Many products now ship with Zwifloc built in, and gear you already own can be retrofitted.
